Veggie Sausage Gravy

Fall is coming and one of my favorite memories is my dad making sausage gravy for breakfast on a cast iron skillet. I loved watching him cook and loved seeing my family and friends react to how tasty all of his homemade food was. My dad has a secret recipe that I can not share, but this is the closest I have come to it! This recipe can be made however you like it, enjoy!

What you will need:

1 lb of your choice of sausage, we like to use Lightlife vegan sausage (follow the link in header to purchase)

2 tbl butter, we use earth balance

3 tbl of flour

3 cups of cold milk, we use almond milk

1 tsp of salt

1 tbl black pepper

1 tsp of poultry seasoning

Start out by melting your 2 tbl of butter, slowly crumble in your sausage to start browning. Once sausage is browned sprinkle in 3 tbl of flour, and mix with a wooden spoon. Make sure your milk is ice cold, and switch to a whisk, add in 1 cup of milk at a time until you reach a smooth consistency without any lumps. Allow your gravy to thicken over medium heat for about five minutes, and then stir in your salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning. Serve over over your favorite buttermilk biscuits for a yummy fall breakfast!
