I have been making my own deodorant for about a year now and I am happy I made the switch. According to recent studies Americans spend over 18 billion dollars a year on deodorant and the numbers just keep increasing. The problem here is some ingredients can be extremely harmful to both men and women. The biggest culprit being Aluminum. Aluminum based compounds are used as the active ingredient in antiperspirants. Some research suggests that aluminum-containing underarm antiperspirants, which are applied frequently and left on the skin near the breast, may be absorbed by the skin and have estrogen-like hormonal effects. Because estrogen can promote the growth of breast cancer cells, some scientists have suggested that the aluminum-based compounds in antiperspirants may contribute to the development of breast cancer. In addition, it has been suggested that aluminum may have direct activity in breast tissue.
So on that note, this is what you will need:
Step One: Mix your dry ingredients together in a bowl until throughly combined.
Step Two: Drop your essential oils into your wet ingredients
Step Three: Layer your dry and wet ingredients into a glass jar mixing thoroughly as you go
Step Four: Find a lid and securely tighten. Store in your refrigerator overnight and allow to solidify.
I get a lot of questions about getting the deodorant out of the jar. I either use my fingers(it washes off easily, and you won’t melt) or a popsicle stick to apply. Our bodies are all so unique and beautiful, that being said my batch of diy goodness will last me about a month, maybe yours will be different(so this will last you until it runs out).
